Reports Best Practices

Here are some great habits to be forming now to make sure you're making the best use of the system reports:

  • Reports Permissions - Under the Admin Button > Users > Groups, you are able to set permissions for many areas of the system, including Reports. Make sure only the appropriate ones are set for each of your groups.
  • Back Up Your Inventory Value - Run your Inventory Value report monthly and export it, save the file somewhere you can find it. This is just a backup, the system will allow you to run the report for previous months, if needed.
  • Use the Low Inventory Report - Using the low inventory settings in products you will reorder (Reorder Point, Desired Stock Level) is the best way to stay on top of what is running low. Check your Low Inventory report often, at least weekly, and use the Rain POS PO/RO system to make sure inventory is as close to optimal at all times.
  • Use Custom Views of Sales Details Report - There are a lot of ways to configure this report, and saving the configurations you use most often can be a huge time-saver. The views you save will be only for you (at the user level), and will appear in your Favorites menu in the upper left as well as in the pop-out menu when you hover over Reports.
  • Use Inventory Velocity and Inventory Age Reports - The Inventory Velocity report lets you know what is selling quickly and what inventory is not moving, giving you a great insight into what you will want to reorder. Inventory Age will show you your oldest inventory so you can clear out anything that has been around too long.
