You can get to this part of the system by clicking on the Inventory area in the blue Admin Toolbar and then clicking Packages.
What's the difference between Kits and Packages? A Kit combines certain products in whatever quantities are needed to form a unique product. A Package offers the customer choices, allowing them to choose from several products in different Components of the package to combine into a package deal at a certain price. It's kind of like a family meal at a fine Chinese restaurant, where you pick one from Group A, one from Group B, and one from Group C. Packages don't take inventory out for the individual items until the moment they're sold, while Kits take the inventory out the moment they're created.
Packages allow multiple items to be created and sold as a packaged bundle within the point of sale. It currently is not compatible with the website. To create a new package, go to Inventory > Packages and click on the +New Package button. On the far right side of each Package's Title Bar, you can click the Trashcan Icon to Delete a Package if you no longer need it.
When creating your new package, you'll notice the Package Title, Short Description, and Price are all required (required items are always in green). After entering this information, the next step is to create your Component groups. Within a Package, you can have multiple Components, each with multiple products the customer can choose from. To begin, press the blue New Component button. For each Component group you make, if you need to, you can click to Delete on the far right.
Please Note: Be careful to plan the order in which you create your Component groups before you start creating them, as you will not have the ability to reorganize their order. The first one you create will be the first one the Customer chooses from, and so on down your list of Component groups.
Please also note that you need to be careful in how you price your Package. Ideally, it should be a discounted overall price between your component items so the customer is getting a good value. You will NOT be able to discount the Package further in the Register, so price it appropriately.
To create your new Component group, first enter a title for the Component group. Below the Title area you'll see a Search field that allows you to search for items using either the Product Title, UPC, Manufacturer Number, or SKU. When the customer is purchasing this bundle, the Component you are making will be either a group of products or a single product: if it's a group, they will pick one from the Component group. So it's good to have a group of fairly similar items that are also similarly priced for your customers to choose from. Some packages you may want to build around a single, main item, so for that Component, you would not need other items in its Component group. We'll demonstrate for you down below how this works in the Register.
You will need to create each of your Component groups in turn, and you can add and remove products freely from each as you go. Save the Package to complete its creation.
The Rain POS system makes selling your Package deals extremely easy! To start, search for the Package by entering keywords from its Title in your Item Search field in your Register, as pictured below. A Customer is not necessary in the Register to sell a Package deal.
Click the item in the drop-list and the Add Package panel will pop up on the side. You'll be prompted to click and select one item from each Component group you've created.
Once you have an item from each Component group, you'll be able to add the Package to the Register by clicking the Add to Register button.
Once you have added the Package to the Register, you will see all of the items in the Package, and the Price for it is fixed. The line item also does not have the normal Discount button, since it is assumed you are selling the Package at a discount already. Similarly, if you add other items to the transaction and do a Global Discount (using the % button in the area to the right), the Package will be exempt from the discount.
