Please follow the steps in this guide to set up your Epson T88-series printer in Windows 10 or 11. Prior to this setup, make sure that you have plugged in and powered on the printer, installed the driver (see below), and that you've done a successful test print (that option will be there for you at the end of the setup procedure).
Many times, the driver that comes on the installation with the printer is an older version, so you might want to check the manufacturer's site for the latest version. To do so, click the link below and choose your Windows operating system (if it is not already chosen for you).* Next, click the link to download the Advanced Printer Driver.
* If you do not know if your version of Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, go to Control Panel > System, and you can see.
Click here for the latest Epson T88-series Receipt Printer driver download page.
Also prior to this setup, you will need to make sure that your browser is set up to print properly with our system. Please call our Support team at 385-404-6200 and choose option 2 for support. It will typically take five to ten minutes once they have started a screen share with you to properly configure your printer.
Once you have the best version of the driver installed, you will want to open your list of printers in your Control Panel. Many versions of Windows have a Devices and Printers link in your Start menu that will take you right there, but you can always find your printers in your Control Panel list.
Right-click on your Epson printer and go to Printer Properties to start. (Note: if you are using Windows XP, you will go to Preferences instead.) It is recommended to leave the settings you see alone unless directed to make changes to them below.
At the bottom of the Printer Properties window, click on Preferences.
In the Preferences window, click the Advanced button in the lower right.
In the Advanced Options window, make sure your proper paper width is selected. 58mm is just over 2-inches, and 80mm is about 3-inches. So, for example, if you use the most common size of 80mm, you would choose 80mm x 297mm as your option (this option allows it to print to whatever length the receipt requires). Click OK once you have made your selection.
Click OK to close the Advanced Options window, and then click on the Peripherals tab at the top of the Preferences window. If you are using a cash drawer, at this point, make sure it is plugged into your Epson receipt printer via phone cable (RJ12). In the Peripherals droplist, click on Cash Drawer.
You will now have the option of choosing when the cash drawer is triggered to open. We recommend the first tab that comes up, Start of Document, so the drawer opens as soon as the receipt starts printing. For Cast Drawer #1, set it to Open in the Start of Document tab. You can also test the drawer trigger by clicking the Operation Check button. Click Apply, then click OK.
You should still have your Properties window open. Click on the Advanced tab and find the Printing Defaults button near the bottom and click it. You will make the exact same changes you did under Preferences, here, so in the lower right of the Printing Defaults window, click on the Advanced button:
In the Printing Defaults Advanced Options window, select your paper size and click OK to close this window, then click OK for the Printing Defaults window.
Click OK to save your settings.
Next, run a test print from our system to make sure everything works all right! If you have transactions you've already completed, you can go to Reports > End of Day and find a transaction at the bottom of the screen, click on its ID number, and print the receipt from the Transaction View. Or you can ring up a test transaction and see it that way.
The first time you print, make sure you have set your Epson printer to be the active printer, and click on the Properties button, then go to the Advanced button in the lower right of the Properties window, and in the Advanced Properties window make sure your paper is set correctly (it probably won't be, this first time). Any time you change from one printer and back to this one, it is a good idea to make this same check.
If your receipt is printing with extra paper below the printed area, you should first check your Browser settings (see the link at the top of this article to set your Browser to print with our system) and if that doesn't work, double-check the areas listed above where you set your paper size and make sure they are set to either 58mm x 297mm or 80mm x 297mm.
